The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) introduced a new world map offering a unique perspective on the geopolitical composition of the planet, focusing on both G20 countries and those with Brazilian diplomatic presence. This updated edition, available in print and digitally on the institute’s website, displays innovations in data presentation and accessibility.

The updated version of the world map signifies an additional endeavor linked to Brasil's incumbency in the G20 presidency. It was formally delivered to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva by Márcio Pochmann, President of IBGE, during their scheduled meeting.

As per details on the IBGE portal, the map production aligns with Brasil's G20 presidency, presenting an opportunity to exhibit a distinctive perspective of the country in relation to both the G20 countries and the global community.

The IBGE has collaborated with the National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) of all G20 members to promote the utilization of locally generated statistical data with the aim of enhancing the socioeconomic landscapes of these countries.

"This is an effort that the IBGE is undertaking in collaboration with the National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) of all G20 countries, bolstered by the backing of multilateral organizations affiliated with the United Nations (UN), including the International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). These esteemed partners are integral to the new dialogue initiated by the IBGE, aimed at enriching the Brazilian context within the broader global landscape," remarked Pochmann.

Beyond the world map

The IBGE has also published "Creating Synergies between the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the G20: Inequalities Booklet - First Analyses." This study aims to foster alignment between the agendas of the G20 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The indicators adhere to internationally recognized methodologies and standards, leveraging regularly updated official national data for their calculations. Through this publication, the IBGE brings to the debate the existing synergies between the 2030 Agenda and G20, offering an initial dataset to facilitate discussions on inequality. These discussions will unfold within working groups, task forces, the G20 Social, and the upcoming Summit scheduled for November," remarked Denise Kronemberger, the coordinator of the SDG Project at the IBGE presidency.

Junior reporters from Intercultural News, a communication partner of G20 Brasil, attended the event and had the opportunity to interview the President of the IBGE.
