Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI20)
The Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI20) play a crucial role in strengthening cooperation among the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of G20 member countries, demonstrating a commitment to promote transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in global governance.
About the SAI20
SAI20 arises from the need to develop a platform that strengthens the role of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) as strategic partners of G20 governments in addressing global challenges. SAIs play a key role in overseeing and auditing public spending, ensuring transparency and accountability of governments. Therefore, integrating them as strategic partners contributes to enhancing the governance and effectiveness of global programs and policies.
In addition, SAI20 was created to guarantee the unity and integrity of the SAI community within the framework of the platforms and initiatives of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
The strategic agendas chosen for the Brazilian presidency are the fight against hunger and poverty and climate finance. The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) presidency of SAI20 prioritizes the production of a Communiqué – a joint declaration that summarizes the discussions, decisions, and commitments of the Supreme Audit Institutions themselves, along with recommendations relevant to the G20 themes. This document will serve as a guide for the group's future actions. The aim is also to consolidate SAI20 as a key forum for discussing audit approaches, sharing best practices, data, and methodologies between SAIs and countries.
Background
The Engagement Group was established in August 2022, during Indonesia's presidency of the G20, with the aim of advancing policies relevant to external control. Since its inception, it has already achieved significant results. At its second edition in India in 2023, the first and second Communiqués were issued.
