Chennai gears up to host the first G20 EdWG 2023

80 delegates from 30 countries and international organisations to participate in the two days deliberations on the 1st and 2nd Feb

IIT Madras to host seminar on ‘Role of Digital Technology in Education’ tomorrow

As a unique initiative exhibits from G-20 countries on ‘Digital Education Initiatives and Enabling Digital Technologies’ to be showcased for three days

Tamil Nadu would be hosting the first G20 Education Working Group 2023 in Chennai with IIT Madras hosting a seminar on ‘Role of Digital Technology in Education’.

The seminar will be chaired by K.Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of India. Prof V.Kamakoti, Director, IIT, Madras will speak on the use of digital technologies by G-20 members to provide accessible, inclusive and equitable education for all.

The daylong seminar will have three sessions including providing accessible and equitable education for K-12 learners, enabling high quality higher education learning opportunities at scale and emerging technologies to provide skill education and training. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, School education and Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman NETF (National Educational Technology Forum) and Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary Skill Education, Government of India will chair the sessions. 69 delegates from 19 countries will participate in the day long event which will also include other activities such as an audio walkthrough to showcase the history, vision and mission of IIT Madras and visit to the 3 Centres of Excellence- the Heritage Center, the Center for Innovation and the Brain Center.

Prof Kamakoti has said the seminar has generated a lot of interest among the G20 member countries, with 15 countries having sent the inputs highlighting their best practices in the field of Digital Technology for School Education, Higher Education and Skill Development.

The Plenary session of the first G20 Education Working Group meeting will be held on the 1st of February, with Secretary Higher Education K.Sanjay Murthy , India Chair, setting the tone for the deliberations. The Working Group Meeting will be inaugurated by Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying.

During the two day meet there will be detailed discussions on themes which will help the global community find long term sustainable solution to the similar educational challenges being faced by member countries placed in different geographies.

80 delegates from 30 countries and international organisations will deliberate on areas for an inclusive, equitable, relevant and quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Delegates attending the event will be taken to Mahabalipuram Group of Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage to showcase the rich architectural heritage, reflected in the high quality craftsmanship achieved as early as the 6th century CE. On the sidelines of the G20 events Cultural events and dinners are also organised showcasing the vibrant cultural elements and bustling culinary scene of Tamil Nadu.
