The Framework Working Group (FWG) is holding its third technical meeting in Brussels. The event is coordinated by the Brazilian Ministry of Finance (Ministério da Fazenda) in partnership with the European Union, and ends on Tuesday, June 25.

The agenda began on Monday, June 24th, and advances Brasil’s proposals, which are focused on issues such as the inclusion of inequality in global macroeconomic debates, and the need for economic analyses to establish climate change as a variable. The meeting began with a video featuring Ambassador Tatiana Rosito, secretary of International Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and Finance Track coordinator.

In her opening message, the Ambassador celebrated the receptivity of G20 members to the Brazilian agenda, and outlined the meeting's discussions: “Based on contributions from international organizations, we will debate the global economic context—such as the difference in growth between countries, as well as risks to financial stability. We will also address decarbonization and present policies that members may consider as they pursue transition, as well as equitable pathways that protect macroeconomic and financial stability while ensuring public support for transition efforts.”

Undersecretary for Macroeconomic Monitoring and Trade Policy and FWG coordinator Julia Braga stated that, from the WG’s first meeting on, discussions have been well accepted and advanced positively. “We are on a good path to create and deliver results. Brasil is excited to see the contributions that countries can make to the discussion on how to better deal with the challenge of inequality,” she said.

The next FWG meeting will be held on September 23 and 24, in São Paulo.
