Alliance against Hunger and Poverty is theme of meeting among emerging countries in Washington

Brasil reinforced its commitment with fiscal sustainability and the need for long-term investments in infrastructure and the social area. The Finance Track coordinator, Ambassador Tatiana Rosito represented Brasil at the G24, a ministerial meeting that gathers a group of developing and emerging countries.

On the occasion, Rosito highlighted President Lula's initiative for a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, and reinforced the country’s commitment to fiscal sustainability and the need for long-term investments in infrastructure and the social area. Ambassador Rosito also delivered an explanation of how the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) can support these efforts. 

"Our G20 presidency has been committed to promoting mutual interest of the emerging economies," said Rosito. The secretary also reinforced the Brazilian G20 Presidency's efforts to establish an agenda that fosters learning from other countries’ experiences towards building a new International Financial Architecture.

According to Rosito, "The current challenges require strong coordination”. One of the missions of the G20 Finance Track is to provide incentives for MDB reform proposals to increase financing capacity and efficiency to tend to the most pressing issues in the context of global development.

The experiences shared by the  Ambassador were welcomed by the participants, and the president of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, praised the importance of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty initiative.
